2017 and 2018 were not easy years to be a CIO or CISO, and 2019 isn’t showing any signs of being easier. With so many career-ending-level data breaches in 2017 (e.g., Equifax, Uber, Yahoo, to name a few) and with the stronger regulatory requirements worldwide, CIOs/CISOs have a corporate responsibility to rethink their approach to data security. Regulatory compliance aside, companies have a responsibility to their customers and shareholders to protect data, and minimize its exposure not only to external attackers but also to employees. The most common method of data breach in 2017 was a phishing email sent to a company’s internal employees (See 2017 Data Breach Investigation Report), This makes employees unwillingly complicit in the data breach. Over 80% of successful cyberattacks have a critical human element that enabled them. The average employee who opens the innocent-looking attachment or link, is unintentionally jeopardizing a company’s data. While there is no 100% protection, th

Email. It’s the number-one business application used by organizations. It’s also the number-one method used to execute cyberattacks, enabling malware delivery, phishing, impersonations, and the spread of threats that are already internal to your organization. In fact, 91 percent of all cyberattacks start with an email. And your organization can’t function for long without email. How many hours of email downtime can your organization comfortably live with? If email isn’t accessible due to an adverse incident like malicious intent, human error or technical failure, your organization would likely suffer. The only way to get ahead of cybercriminals and to holistically protect your business is to adopt a new approach to email security. You need a multidimensional approach that brings together threat protection, adaptability, durability and recoverability in a single cloud-based service. You need to enable these four dimensions to truly provide cyber resilience for your email.

Two-thirds of all internally generated email sent is from employees communicating within an organization*. Yet most IT organizations only focus on inbound email when it comes to protecting against cyber-attacks. In doing so, they ignore the serious risks posed by internal and outbound emails and the actions of two at risk groups of users - the compromised and careless employee. Mimecast Internal Email Protect extends the security capabilities of Targeted Threat Protection to provide advanced inside-the-perimeter defenses. Watch this on-demand webinar where Mimecast’s Chief Trust Officer, Marc French, and Cyber Security Strategist, Bob Adams discuss: The top things to do to optimize your Targeted Threat Protection implementation and prepare for addressing the threats on the inside. The multiple ways internal email threats start, and why human error nearly always plays a role. The scale and impact of attacks that spread via internal email. How to extend your current protection with Mim

During periods of rapid growth, your business is especially vulnerable to cyberattacks from both malicious insiders, and external threat actors. Extended periods of IT change and consolidation can open seemingly minor security gaps that can quickly become gaping holes attackers will exploit. This quick read will enrich your internal dialog about how to prepare for elevated risk of high-impact cyberattacks.

Security and risk (S&R) pros have the challenging task of using finite resources (including budget, time, and people) to protect their businesses from every possible attack type. On top of this, S&R pros don’t just need to watch out for threats coming from outside their walls, but must keep an eye on internal threats as well. S&R decision-makers face threats from three groups of insiders – compromised accounts (internal accounts that have been compromised by external attacks), careless misuse (internal policy violators and those who accidentally leak or expose data or systems), and malicious insiders (insiders who purposefully take or misuse data or exploit systems), and they must be prepared for each. In February 2017, Mimecast commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate the state of enterprise security readiness for internal email threats.

As a website building service for consumers, Weebly is often the target of DDoS attacks. Previously they mitigated attacks through an internally built security infrastructure but the increasing scale and complexity of DDoS attacks had the company evaluating secondary protection. Learn how Weebly is well protected from DDoS threats of all sizes and complexities after incorporating an added layer of protection and resulting uninterrupted DDoS mitigation and analysis.

All enterprises dealing with private data in test environments should mask or generate test data to comply with regulations such as Payment Card Industry (PCI), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and European Union (EU) as well as to protect against internal and external attacks.

Stronger Measures Have Become Essential To Defend Against Growing Attacks. Database security is the last line of defense, so it deserves greater focus on the protection of private data from both internal and external attacks than IT pros have traditionally given it.

Protecting a business – including its information and intellectual property, physical infrastructure, employees, and reputation – has become increasingly difficult. Online threats come from all sides: internal leaks and external adversaries; domestic hacktivists and overseas cybercrime syndicates; targeted threats and mass attacks. And these threats run the gamut from targeted to indiscriminate to entirely accidental. Like many security trends and frameworks, the early stages of adoption often involve inconsistent definitions, challenges with justification and management communication and an unknown path to implementation. In this white paper, we: • Review the current threatscape and why it requires this new approach • Offer a clarifying definition of what cyber threat Intelligence is • Describe how to communicate its value to the business and • Lay out some concrete initial steps toward implementing Intelligence-Led Security

Organizations around the world are embracing the economic and operational benefits of cloud computing. Whether organizations are extending internal resources or fully deploying on Microsoft Azure, the ability to take advantage of the business benefits of cloud require that organizations continue to meet key security requirements. Azure delivers a trusted cloud infrastructure on which customers can design, build and manage their own cloud applications and infrastructure. While Azure provides security controls for the infrastructure and change to virtualization layers, deploying organizations are responsible for deploying and maintaining security for the guest operating systems, applications, and data in order to protect against malware attacks, zero-day vulnerabilities and data breaches. Read this white paper to lean more about Trend Micro Instant-On Cloud Security for Microsoft Azure.

Most organizations have a dirty little secret: they are relying on user and password-based authentication to protect sensitive internal applications. With 81% of data breaches involving weak or stolen credentials1, applications that use single-factor authentication are an easy target for attack. Unfortunately, updating internal cloud applications—as well as legacy and custom applications—to support multi-factor authentication can be an IT headache for many organizations.
